Aion - Some notable domestic animals

Hello again, time for another Aion post,

-

The preponderance of sapient races found upon Aion has meant one important thing for its fauna, that some animals underwent domestication.

Although humans can claim to be the most proficient at domesticating various Aionian fauna, the Dinomachy are also extremely adept at this practice. After all, it is only the Dinomachy and their cronies that have mastered the art of using certain dinosaurs as mounts for labor, transport and war.

Here we shall discuss a few animals that have been rather modified physically by the process of domesticating them for purpose.

The ethnic group of Aionian humans colloquially known as "Dinomachian Cronies", have styled much of their culture after the Dinomachy, but the places they differ are the most fascinating. It is a common hobby in the cities and settlements of the cronies, to attentively breed ornamental strains of the ubiquitous Placoderm-fish, Bothriolepis. These domestic strains usually stand no chance in the wild and serve a similar purpose to fancy goldfish on Earth. Above you can see one such example, where the armor has been bred to bear numerous bumps, spikes and embellishments, and the fins are large and flowing. There are some ornamental strains that are even more unusual...

The lack of any sheep or goats upon Aion led the humans to domesticate a kind of camel instead, Capricamelus, the Goat-Camel. Able to subsist on coarse, low quality feed, various groups of humans came to develop this breed for the purposes of meat, milk and wool production. The domestic form produces large quantities of fluffy, soft wool, much in the way that an alpaca does, and its udders and teats are more prominent and better developed, to aid in milking and milk-production.

Another animal domesticated by the humans was the Warthog. This hardy breed has shorter, fatter legs and a larger body, to provide a higher yield of good quality meat. Tusks are broad but rather blunt in shape, and are often used to produce ivory products such as jewelry.

This domestic breed of Caudipteryx originated with the Dinomachy, but trade has made it widely used amongst groups of humans too. Having a broader breast and more muscular legs, its meat yield is higher than the wild form, the feathers are degenerate and very soft, often used for lining clothing and bedding. This form has also been bred to consistently provide a high yield of edible eggs much like a chicken.
