Demons and Angels - My own interpretation...

 Hello again,

Recently, thanks to some discussions with my close friend Mette Aumala, I had a few ideas for Lovecraftian interpretations of demons and angels from more traditional doctrine.

The idea is to make more visceral and discomnforting-looking demons or angels, compared to the traditional iconography, and for this the obscenity and fleshy nature of Lovecraftian entities seems apt.

This first is an interpretation of the Biblical Ophanim as some sort of invertebrate-based flying Lovecraftian monster. Ophanim are described as flying winged sets of wheels set about with wings, and here I have loosely applied that shape to a multi-finned, Ctenophore-jelly-like creature. The "eyes" in this instance may instead actually be light-producing organs.

This next one is a Demon that is tasked with tempting mortal men. I didn't have a traditional demon from iconography as a basis, but the Cthonic Roman deity Priapus suits this one fairly well. This demon is drawn as a serpentine cluster of throbbing, pulsating male genitals, and he represents pure male lust and sins of the flesh. Indeed, it is possible that Incubi, those male boudoir-invading sex-demons, may be his offspring.
